The Royale Cinema Project aims to bring people together in our town through affordable, accessible and enriching communal film experiences.
We partner with local organizations to ensure seniors, students, and neighbors with disabilities never miss out on the joy of shared cinema. We currently sponsor three weekly screenings that are free for the community in Joplin to enjoy.
Our longterm goals include providing after school film education programming for Joplin's youth, putting on 1-2 film festivals each year to celebrate filmmakers in our region, hosting filmmaking and screenwriting workshops for students with an interest in film, and partnering with more organizations who could benefit from access to our space and services.
We seek to build and grow a film appreciation in our town through community movie nights, especially for people who don't always have regular access to cinema. The project sponsors events that put our local community first in a redeveloping neighborhood of Joplin, right on Broadway and Route 66.
The Royale Cinema Project is run exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Royale Cinema Project's aim is to bring cinema and the arts back to our local neighborhood and focus on providing a space for our community to have access to film and arts entertainment in a welcoming environment. Large portions of Joplin—particularly the neighborhoods served by our program—are not walkable to theaters, educational centers or youth cultural spaces. Our local neighborhood and members of the community often lack reliable transportation, which further restricts their ability to engage in enrichment opportunities after school or on weekends.
The goal of holding our weekly screenings in a central, accessible community venue helps remove these barriers and ensures our community has access to the arts where they can attend consistently. Our multiple outdoor screenings are free every week!
The goal of this first fundraiser campaign is to provide funding for more free showings and events to the residents of Joplin, after-school programming for students in the Joplin area and to build out the community courtyard with bathrooms for guests, additional covered seating and a space sheltered from the elements to guarantee screenings and outdoor events can happen consistently, unimpeded by bad weather.
We believe the financial barrier to entry for film entertainment and cultural arts programs is too high and that it should be accessible to everyone in our community regardless of their socioeconomic status, location or background.
The goal of the Royale Cinema Project is to provide access for our city and neighborhood to consistent arts, entertainment and educational programming at low to no cost, because the arts and cultural enrichment should be accessible to everyone, everywhere.
We bring free and affordable screenings to the people who benefit most from a night out at the movies together:

The cinema, bar and lounge (Royale Cinema Lounge LLC). Tickets, food, drinks and memberships are purchases, not donations.
The Royale Cinema Project and Royale Cinema Lounge (RCL) share the building at 715 E Broadway, but they're two different things. The nonprofit makes affordable community programming possible: free and discounted visits for partner groups, and community screenings. The lounge is the business: the cinema, the bar and the members' lounge.
When a partner group visits free or at a discount, the Royale Cinema Project covers the value of that visit, and we count every one of them in the numbers on this page. Currently we partner with Arc of The Ozarks, Easter Seals and also prioritize affordable access for the students attending our local colleges.
